Bibbee Nature Club
The Bibbee Nature Club is dedicated to the observation and study of the natural world near our homes in southeastern West Virginia.
Our purpose is to provide our members an opportunity to enjoy, protect and respect the natural world in which they and their families find themselves. Throughout the year, we offer a variety of observational and learning experiences: lectures, movies, and (of most important) field trips. Our Wild Food Dinner each fall provides a climax to our year.
Please join us. You are welcome at any of our events. If you choose, we would be glad to have you as a member.

History of Bibbee
The Bibbee Nature Club was formed in 1978 with 32 charter members.
The club is named in honor of Dr. Paul Cecil Bibbee who was a Professor of Biology at Concord College (University) in Athens, West Virginia. Always devoted to the study of nature, he was a photographer, taxidermist, and ornithologist. His 1947 thesis on the Bewick's Wren earned him a Ph.D. and serves as our inspiration today.

Bibbee Nature Club was Conceived
The Bibbee Nature Club was Conceived when a steering committee of Robert Speich, Mrs. Grady McRae, Mrs. A.G. Timberlake, Joe Thomas, with Oliver Johnson as coordinator was created at a Century Count check-up at the Oliver Johnson’s May 6th, 1973.
A questionnaire was distributed over this area of West Virginia, which had 29 favorable responses. On October 23rd at Pipestem State Park with 36 in attendance, a Constitution and By-Laws Committee was appointed of Mrs. C.D. Harrah, Ms. Hallie Cobb, Mrs. A. G. Timberlake, Stanford Maddy and Oliver Johnson. A nominating committee was elected August 20th at a covered dish supper at Glenwood Park and plans approved for the first annual meeting at Concord College October 7th. Twenty-two of the 32 charter members attended the first annual meeting approved a constitution and by-laws and elected the first officers. The purpose of this organization shall be to provide a medium for its members to enjoy, respect and protect our flora and fauna through organized field trips, programs and learning experiences. Any family or individual (16 years of age) interested in our purposes may become a member by payment of dues. This organization shall be regional in nature. |
