2024 BBC Early Spring Event March 8th - 10th
The BBC 2024 Early Spring Meeting will be at North Bend State Park in Cairo WV.
The event starts on Friday March 8th and runs through Sunday the 10th. Early Friday check-in time, 3:00PM.
BBC Early Spring Event ~ Schedule of Activities:
Friday Afternoon: Begins with members gathering and socializing, the Friday evening events start with a group dinner at 6:30 pm.
Friday Night Program: Presented by ~ John Northeimer and Marjorie Keatley
Program: Birds of Canaan Valley WV: The research of select birds from the Canaan Valley Resort State Park

John Northeimer is a retired Canaan Valley Resort State Park naturalist.
Saturday: Begins with an early hot breakfast followed by the daytime field trips. Our main field trip will be heading to the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge. Afterwards we will bird several Ohio River hotspots on both sides of the river. Lastly, we will head back to North Bend, and bird the North Fork of the Hughes River along with North Bend Lake.
Saturday Evening: Activities will begin with our dinner banquet between 6:00 ~ 6:30pm. (Exact time will be noted at the event)

Program: Birds Below Zero: How Boreal Birds Survive & Thrive in the depths of Winter
Many birds of the boreal forest are cold hardy and have a multitude of survival tricks. Some birds have snow-specific hunting skills, yet others have physiological strategies or anatomical quirks to help them thrive in the cold season. There are species that even sleep below the snow! Sparky will also share the best ways to visit and photograph owls at Sax-Zim Bog in northeastern Minnesota.
Mark 'Sparky' Stensaas is a Minnesota naturalist, author, publisher and wildlife photographer.
Sunday Morning: Begins with a hot breakfast, followed by our spring membership meeting and lots of socializing.
Total cost is $135.00 per person for double occupancy - $205.00 per person for single occupancy.
