2024 Foray Miscellaneous Camp Information:
General Information:
Many Foray events will be bird oriented, and you will have many opportunities to join in early morning bird walks, breeding bird surveys and bird population studies.
There will also be field work in flowering plants, mammals, herptiles, insects and amphibians.
A series of lectures and field trips for campers who wish to participate will be part of the daily activities.
The Foray directors, Cindy Slater & Mary Murin assisted by others will be there to help. Feel free to offer your assistance.
Many of the participants at Foray are experienced field biologists, some professional, some amateur, but all specialists in their field of nature. Their informal leadership and enthusiasm to help people should make Foray both enjoyable and educational.
Rules governing Foray are few. We expect you to contribute your share towards making Foray a success.
While the BBC cannot be held responsible for any individual, all precautions will be taken to safeguard each participant.
Meals will be furnished by our camp cooks. There will be fruit and snack bars available before breakfast for the early birders.
For all-day excursions, bag lunches will be supplied.
Things to take: Towel, soap, rain gear, walking shoes, boots, cameras, binoculars, hangers, flashlight and notebook.
You will need to take bedding, including pillow and sleeping bag.
Take books on natural history to loan to the library. Be sure your name is in them! Remember, we are going to be in the West Virginia highlands, so plan accordingly for cool and damp weather, as it can occur at any time. If you have a 2-way radio(s), please bring them, as they are helpful when two or more cars are traveling together.
