The Brooks Bird Club Headquarters (Wheeling) Chapter, Wheeling WV.
The BBC originated in Wheeling and for many years all of the meetings and events were held and planned here in Wheeling, hence the name 'Headquarters'.  As it's been the case for many years now, the Brooks Bird Club no longer runs its 'operations' from Wheeling, the BBC 'Entity' (Officers and Board of Trustee members) currently have two business meetings per year at various locations in WV.
All interested in nature are invited to join our local Wheeling members for any of our activities.

 Monthly meetings & field trips
Keep tabs here and on our "Calendar of Events" page.
Most Wheeling Chapter meetings are at the Schrader Enviromental Education Center (SEEC)
April meeting: SATURDAY, APRIL 1st, 10:30, at the SEEC. Note: NOT the first Tuesday, April 4.
It was suggested that the meeting date be changed to a weekend day for a couple of reasons.  One being we may be able to attract younger members or others who are visiting the SEEC.
There will not be speaker.  We will enjoy a walk and talk.  Bring your own sack lunch. (The change to Saturday may or may not be a permanent.  Be watching for further updates.)

Historically the Bird Club helped out the SEEC many times over the years.  If interested, a list is attached.  So, we are not pursuing a contribution to the SEEC at this time.
However, the SEEC does need our assistance.  Help is needed to install an overhead projector that was purchased with BCC funds but never installed.  Help is also needed with a bird camera that has yet to be purchased.
Please contact Molly Haywood mhaywood@oionline.com for further information, and to offer your help.

Please consider donating a bag of black oil sunflower seeds to the SEEC.  Those birds consume a lot of seed.

Dues... $10.00 a year for our local chapter.  This money will be used to buy bird seed for the SEEC.

March meeting: Tuesday, March 7th at 6:00 at the SEEC.
Bring a covered dish, meeting and speaker to follow dinner.  Speaker: Scott Pendleton ~ Program: Birds of Hawaii.

February meeting: Tuesday, February 7th, at 6:00 at the SEEC.
Bring a covered dish.  We will eat at 6:30, with the meeting and speaker to follow.
Our speaker will be Ryan Tomazin.  His topic is "Seeing without Seeing, Hearing without Hearing".

We have some left-over business to discuss making a monetary or in-kind donation to the Schrader Center to offset the cost of staff and utilities for our evening meeting.  There is a suggestion to change the meeting day to the weekend to reduce the cost and perhaps attracting interested Center visitors.

We don't want to spend too much time with this discussion so if you want to voice your opinion by responding to this message, please do so.
We also are looking for ways to get younger bird enthusiast interested in joining the club.
Check our "Calendar of Events" for locations and directions to our summer picnics (when available).
All are welcome to all BBC Wheeling Chapter events including non-members!

  2023 Field trips

Saturday, April 22 – Raccoon Creek State Park:
This is combination bird and wildflower walk with the Three Rivers Birding Club.
Contact Ryan Tomazin 412-220 -9726, wvwarblers@hotmail.com for further information.
Meet at the Roadside Picnic Area West at 9:15 AM, located on Raccoon Park Road.
Directions:
From Pittsburgh: Take Route 22/30 and exit at Imperial. Take Route 30 west to the Raccoon Creek State Park entrance, and drive through the park to the Roadside West picnic area.
From West Virginia: Take Route 22 east from Weirton, exit at Burgettstown and head north on Route 18. Turn left into the park and after driving up hill, look for the Roadside West picnic area on your right.

After checking out the picnic parking lot area, we will drive to the beach and around the lake to continue our birding. There are no plans for a potluck lunch. People can bring their own lunches and everyone can use the picnic tables at Roadside Picnic Area West and socially distance. If you are ill, or have been exposed to COVID around this time, please get better and plan for next year. If there is any interest, and if the weather holds, people can bird and botanize the Wildflower Reserve. It should be the perfect time for wildflowers. If you have any questions, or would like to RSVP, please feel free to contact Ryan either by phone or by email.

In case of inclement weather, this outing will be canceled and not rescheduled.
