I joined the BBC in the mid 80’s. While working part-time at the old Brooks Nature Center in Oglebay Park, I was “encouraged” to go to their Mountain Nature Camp at Terra Alta, WV to learn more about nature, so I could act as a substitute for Bill Beatty’s Nature Day camps. It was here that I fell in love with birding. I really wanted to learn more, so I joined the local chapter of the BBC. I have been participating in their events ever since. I am a retired WV teacher. This is my second time serving on the Board.

I first joined the Brooks Bird Club in 1999, when I attended my first Foray. I have regularly participated in Foray since then, and I have given talks and led walks at several Forays. I am the Director of the WVU Core Arboretum and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the WVU Department of Biology where I teach courses on plant identification, classification and plant ecology. I joined the Brooks Bird Club Board of Trustees in 2013.

Through a membership in a local hiking club in 1962, I found out that several participants were also members of the BBC, one of which anonymously sent me a membership to the BBC in 1963. Through the years, I have served on the Board of Trustees and am currently Membership Secretary. My husband Carl and I directed Forays from 1995 through 2007. We have been organizing and leading trips abroad since 1995, along with birding trips within the U.S., namely Eastern Shore, Maine, Michigan, Texas, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona and California.
