Winter Eagle Surveys
The Winter Eagle Surveys are being conducted by The Bibbee Nature Club and The Mountwood Bird Club both affiliates of the BBC.

It was a very cold and snowy day for the 12th Annual Winter Eagle Survey along the rivers in Southern WV.
Jim Phillips reported that even with the cold weather, there was plenty of eagle activity. Thirteen observers found a total of 50 bald eagles and 1 golden eagle over the 4 hours of observation.
Jim positions groups in numerous locations along the New, Bluestone, and Greenbrier Rivers. The locations and numbers of eagles seen were as follows:
Mouth of the Bluestone River: 23- BAEA (3- adults; 2- sub-adults; 4- 3rd year; 3- 2nd year; 11- immature)
Also, one Peregrine Falcon.
Rt. 20 Overlook: 6- BAEA (2- adults; 1- 3rd year; 1- 1st year; 2- immature)
Bellepoint Park: 1- BAEA (adult); 1- GOEA (immature)
Mouth of Madams Creek: No Eagles
Brooks Overlook: 2- BAEA (1- adult; 1- immature)
Rt. 122: 16- BAEA (3- adults; 3- 4th year; 10- immature)
Red Sulphur Springs: 2- BAEA (adults)
Alfa Codes (BAEA) Bald Eagle (GOEA) Golden Eagle
Thirteen participants found 50 Bald Eagles (12- adults; 2- sub-adults; 3- 4th year; 5- 3rd year; 3- 2nd year; 1- 1st year;
25- immature) and 1- Golden Eagle (immature)
Conditions: 12-22 degrees, 10-100% cloud cover, NNW wind 0-8 mph, visibility 2-10 miles and light flurries with 2-3" snow on the ground.
