BBC
75th Anniversary Is Fast Approaching!
The
Brooks Bird Club, Inc. is
celebrating its 75th Anniversary at Oglebay Park October 26-28, 2007 and is partnering this event with Oglebay
Institute
and the Schrader Environmental Center. This promises
to be a “class act” as far as agenda and programs are concerned. We are counting on your attendance to make
this a success.
Notables
to the ornithology
field will include Chan Robbins, author of numerous books including Birds of North America, part of the Golden
Guide series; as well as Kenn
Kaufman, author of Kingbird Highway
and various nature books in the Peterson series.
Chan Robbins will open the meeting on
Friday evening with the first program at the Schrader Environmental Center after an informal welcoming reception. Kenn Kaufman will be the keynote speaker for
the Saturday evening banquet at Wilson Lodge, Oglebay Park. Both will be
around for the weekend to join the group in other activities.
A
memorial bird walk on the
Brooks Nature Trail Saturday morning after breakfast is scheduled
(adjacent to
the Schrader Environmental Center), followed by lunch and a “Paper
Session”
under the direction of Jay Buckelew, Biology Chair at Bethany College
and
Editor of The Redstart, in the
afternoon, also at the Schrader Center.
During
the Saturday evening
festivities at Wilson Lodge, a quilt will be raffled along with a few
bird
related items. The Club store will also
have
anniversary items available for sale including:
ball caps, bandanas, T-shirts, and sweatshirts.
The
Annual Meeting of the BBC
will be held Sunday morning after breakfast and all are invited to
attend. It is a great opportunity to learn
more about
the business of the Club.
The
cost per person attending
Friday evening’s activities will be $25.00.
Saturday’s program for the day and evening will be $75.00 per
person. Lodging will be extra. We have a
block of rooms reserved at Wilson Lodge, so make sure you make
reservations
early.
